Being the list lover that I am- I have a list of daily habits that I try to do everyday. One of these is what we affectionately call (ok, I affectionately call) “Shine Time” and yes- we (ok, I) use jazz hands when we say it.
The concept is really simple- 15 minutes of cleaning a day. We put on shiny, happy music and rush around like gooses cleaning the house.
It’s incredible how 15 minutes can really make a difference- particularly if the whole family joins in.
But think about it- 15 minutes a day- that works out at 7 hours of cleaning a week for a family of four.
The benefits of doing it in small bursts are huge!-Very few people enjoy housework, but anyone can handle 15 minutes of it. Because its only 15 minutes, distractions are minimised. You are more likely to target that 20% of cleaning that will have the 80% impact (thanks Pareto!). And everyone can find 15 minutes in their day. Shine time is definitely something worth considering!
If you only do 3 things:
1. Clean a little bit every day- it builds up without you realising. But do it consistently.
2. Involve the family- either assign each member a different room, or all work in the same room and change rooms everyday.
3. Make it fun- if that means jazz hands, crazy names and fun music- so be it!
So, how could you incorporate this idea into your life? Let me know in the comments!
Shine on, you crazy diamonds,
