I know you are approaching 40 with a dread you normally reserve for medical procedures. And you’re in a bad spot- you’ve lost confidence, doubt yourself and can’t see any light ahead.
I want you to know that turning 40 will be the big turning point in your life. The year after 40 will bring untold joy, restore your sense of pride and make you more completely you than you have ever been. With birthday money, you will go out and buy your first 1950s style frock. There’ll be no turning back. You’ll discover this is how you’ve always meant to dress. The colour, the petticoats, the pleasure it brings strangers. Yeah, thats you. The flowers in your hair? Thank goodness you’ve always known that one.
You’re also about to open your own business. I know. Freak out. You are going to work longer and harder than you ever have. You’ll be so out of depth at times, but hey, you’ve got this. (Spoiler alert- its a barbershop- wacky, right?). The learning curve you are about to undertake will be one of the biggest of your adult life. Taxes, social media, payroll and super- you’re a business women now. What a riot, little Belinda running her own business.
I know risk isn’t your thing, your comfort zone is your favourite place to be. Sad news, you no longer enjoy your comfort zone, it was beginning to hurt you. Fortunately, you’ve taken this in your stride, got a little drunk off of it. You’ve already begun to plot and plan your next steps, your next ideas. You’ve created a monster- waking at 2am intoxicated by possibilities. You’re about to launch your next business. Something tells me it won’t be the last.
You will rediscover writing again. Sure you’re not too good at it yet. You are going to regret being the generation that didn’t learn grammar, you’ll give up writing a number of times because you don’t feel good enough. Remember why you write- its for you.
Oh, and don’t panic but you’re going to give up sugar. Try not to talk about that too much.
